A rap based on Exodus chapter 1

lyrics

We're slaves
Your cities are built on our backs
You're slaves
So carry those bricks in your sacks
We're slaves
7 days a week, no relaxing
You’re slaves
You better not slack, whips cracking
We're slaves
We carry heavy loads, arms shakin'
You're slaves
Get back to work, quit fakin'
We're slaves
Our human rights have been taken
Back-breaking, forced to work, brick makin'

Building, back- breaking, digging, masonry
Making these bricks from straw, working hastily
Egypt's economy continues to boom
On the backs of slaves, while Pharaoh looms
Shovels and trowels, we can't throw in the towel
Foul-mouthed, abusive Egyptians scowl
They whip us, they beat us, they harshly treat us
Prisoners for 400 years, they defeat us
They meet us at the end of each shift asking,
"Did you meet your daily quota, bricks in your baskets?"
They're taskmasters, we have to satisfy their checklist
Shackled hand and foot, iron necklace
Steel yoke, we feel broke, cause we are, we're penniless
No wages, no benefits, through jail bars I'm pennin' this
We want to escape and bury our bonds
But pharaoh — he’s got these chariots of bronze!
They're merciless, they're not sorry
They flogged my father down in the quarry, it was gory
He was just too slow, the work load was just too much
They broke 3 of his fingers, and now it hurts to touch
His pick, but he must, grind this dirt into dust, and clutch those boulders
That crush his shoulders, and march like soldiers
He’s parched, under harsh supervision
Taking orders, making mortar
Egypt's egregious oppression makes me question
God, because they told me that Jacob had a blessing
So where's the god of Israel?
Does he see this injustice?
What does he say?
He's a million miles away

We're slaves
Your cities are built on our backs
You're slaves
So carry those bricks in your sacks
We're slaves
7 days a week, no relaxing
You’re slaves
You better not slack, whips cracking
We're slaves
We carry heavy loads, arms shakin'
You're slaves
Get back to work, quit fakin'
We're slaves
Our human rights have been taken
Back-breaking, forced to work, brick makin'

All day long I work and toil
All day long I slave in the hot sun (x6)
